Corona Care

Hello Readers. I have been away from this space for a long time. Getting back today as something is important to convey in the midst of this environment of fear, uncertainty, and anxiety. I am not a scientist. Nor a doctor. I am a nutritionist and energy healer. As a practitioner of alternative medicine, I believe in more than what meets the eye. There is a big list of does and don’ts hitting the inbox everyday. Out of which I have tried consolidate few does and something that does not fall into the bucket of does and don’ts but is very very important if we intend to evolve as wiser and better species. What I have gathered so far from my doctor friends working in the field and the latest research is what I am putting forward for everyone. Covid-19 has no cure. No medicine or a vaccine is invented yet that can claim so, though the research is on at a war-level. It is being said from the beginning that one’s immunity has an important role to play in recovery. That’s true.

High Cholesterol ?!?

Aashish and his wife Archana, both came to the clinic with worried face and a fat file of their latest test reports. Aashish - 46, works in a multinational company as a Finance Manager whereas Archana – 44, is an architect. I welcomed them with a warm smile but they were so overwhelmed with the numbers in the report that they returned it with a frantic cry for help! “ Sonal, do something. It is not good to see the numbers in bold (falling out of range, I mean) at this age. Kids are just finishing high school… ” With my smile intact, I made them sit and offered a glass of water while I started going through the numbers. Aashish and Archana both were on higher side of Cholesterol and that is what made them run to me after listening to dozens of free advises from friends and family. In their heads the only end result of high cholesterol was a ‘Cardiac arrest’ down the line. What was surprising them the most was that they were pretty regular in their morning walks (45 minutes of bri

In recent years we have been hearing and reading a lot about ‘Gluten’. Gluten free diet, gluten free pastas, gluten free baking etc. etc. There are many myths and unnecessary fear around this word ‘Gluten’, and since wheat has been a main staple and a source of gluten, it is taking all the bash. So here are some facts about gluten that would probably help everyone to put things in perspective and look at this whole thing from the ground of awareness rather than the fear. What is Gluten? Gluten is a kind of protein that is found in wheat and many other grains like rye, barley etc. Some people are sensitive to this component, meaning they are unable to process gluten fully. This causes symptoms like flatulence, stomach cramps, headaches etc. This could be a temporary condition also caused by antibiotics, certain medications, heavy drinking, and stress. The gut wall becomes more porous, undigested or partially digested gluten particles enter the blood stream and alarm the imm

Are you eating up your emotions?

Image
Yes, many of us do! We do swallow our emotions. Sometimes consciously and often times unconsciously.  Because, we do not eat to only satisfy the physical hunger. Many a times we eat 'Just Like That'  and we are conditioned to think that it is absolutely okay. We call it 'craving' also. Where to satisfy the physical hunger is necessary for survival, the later one calls for a little deeper thought; after all our bodies are not designed to digest emotions. There are 2 different mechanisms in the body that regulate eating. One that controls physical hunger and the other one that controls emotional hunger .    Body and brain together know what is needed for 'balance' and our cravings are according to it. So lets see how the first mechanism works. When the stomach is empty, blood glucose goes down, Insulin goes down & a hormonal response signals brain. Brain now generates hunger signals. That's how one can sense the stomach growling, legs trembling,
